Fürsten Spring
The health spa's significance and prosperity come from the Fürsten Spring, although after new medical-climatical research results, more than just water, were found to have healing factors. This suits well to justify and increase the reputation of a high mountain spa.
The spring bears its name after the Cardinal Prince Schwarzenberg who owned it at the time. It lies in the cut between the two small park forests directly next to the Sebastian Chapel and is approximately 200 steps away from the health spas. A pleasant shady promenade, which has the same name as the park, leads from the Flatscherschen building to the spring and from Weilgunis health spa a broader, more comfortable drive brings you there. After an official act of the former court in Taxenbach only the high deserving former care-giver of Taxenbach, Johann Zehetner, who in the years from 1831 - 1832 "lifted the spring into a higher position so it could flow into a cute wooden rotunda. Previously the spring flowed completely uncovered in a small ditch so that one was only able to draw the wonderful water with trouble to enjoy".
The rotunda represents a roomy pavilion, made of wood, which rises from a low foundation wall. Here is where a powerful spring breaks through gapping rocks bringing the purest and clearest mountain water, which has received high honors over the course of time because of its magnificent characteristics and splendid effects. The water continuously gushes out with the same constant power between the rocks and falls in the shape of a little waterfall in a depression, while the other part is caught by a funnel-like extended tube and is led through a rosette-like engraved marble disk in a shell shaped marble basin, from which it overflows in every direction into a second wide stone-made basin, on the ground.
The two water basins are surrounded in the front with a wooden railing of the appropriate height. On the back side of the wall we notice both on the right and on the left, a sign which welcomes the entering health spa guest with witted verses. The one found on the left side is only a new stylistic and metrically improved edition of the original installed on the right.
The water of the Fürsten Spring comes first from (described in the topographic part) the old glacier moraine, in fact from the lower portion, which is covered on the surface from the Flatscherschen park forest. Referring to the power of it's occurrence the extent of the catchment area of the spring has to be much bigger. The catchment area appears to have the shape of a narrow metacentric triangle, whose base is the logging road leading to the Schönanger and continues into the vicinity of the former lower Embach Alp, but maybe even further. Assuming that this hypothesis is right, the water of the spring flows in the upper part through lime mica shist, which is the dominating rock in this part. In the lower part the water finds its way through numerous hollows in the glacial moraine, assimilating a considerable amount of carbon dioxide, which was proved by a chemical analysis. The fact is that the water in the spring, during the melting of the snow, has a distasteful and boring taste. This indicates with a high amount of certainty, that the lower, less steep part of the terrain exists of loose layers which are crisscrossed with many hollows, through which the melted water can only slowly diffuse. As mentioned above, the Fürsten Spring is the strongest among all of the springs in Fusch and has the same mightiness year around. The consistency of the water is totally crystal clear during the summer season, with no trace of scent or flavor. It bubbles strongly after poring it into a glass and has a very lovely taste while drinking, even when it has been standing for a while. The average temperature of the water during the spa time is 6.2 ° Celsius. The variations observed until now have been less than 1.0 °. Towards late fall the temperature rises and, according to the residents, during the winter time the water looses all it's freshness and taste, by turning tepid.
Augen Spring
The Augen Spring springs in the middle of the town at the foot of the Flatscherschen park hill right in front of the shop keepers house (Villa "Schwarzkopf"). Upon directive from Cardinal Schwarzenberg a well-spring was simultaneously built with the Fürsten Spring and obtained its current facilities from the architect Moser. What can be told from the location, the spring has it's origin in the underground of the named hill and comes out as expected from a great depth. It is similar to the Fürsten Spring, surrounded by a wooden pavilion with seats and allows passage through its two lateral entrances. The jet flows finger thick and at a constant strength from a cast-iron tube into a stone basin from where the water flows out into a ground hole and runs off. The spring was believed by the locals to be "eye-strengthening" and is still honored for that, this is why it has it's name. During the season the temperature is at constant 6° C. The water is very pleasant to drink and has a minor loosening effect, while the Fürst Spring, or at least at the beginning of its use seems to have the opposite effect. This is without a doubt from the high level of sulfur sour alkalis.
