The health spa St. Wolfgang in Fusch was very old according to different recorded documentations. Because a document from the year of 1417 mentioned a substantial twin-towered church that already stood on a hill. The fact that at this time in a remote area a relatively large church existed, can probably be explained by the lively mining industry and the numerous laborers that worked at the Weichselbach similar to Hirzbach and on the Schiedalpe in the Schmalzgrube.
In the year 1702 the church was destroyed for the most part by a dust avalanche. The church had already been damaged in 1643 and 1686 from two other large avalanches. After the destruction of the church, which was in the rank of a Vicariates, the church services were moved to the St. Ägydius church to Fusch. Later, a new smaller church (which still exists today) was built. Even the new church was not completely safe on this location either. In 1844, 1882 and 1892 it was damaged again and again by avalanches.
